USE YOUR WATCH AS A COMPASS

 

 

 

You can indeed determine all quarters using your watch!

 

Every day, the sun goes up in the east and goes down in the west. This orbit can be used to determine the south.

Once you know where the south is situated, you can determine all other quarters by comparing the sun's orbit with time.

 

THIS IS THE WAY HOW TO DO IT:

 

On the Northern Hemisphere:

  • Point the hour hand of your watch to the sun;

  • take the middle between the hour hand and the twelve o'clock indication;

  • that is the direction of the SOUTH (see figure above).

  • During the daylight saving time period (DST), take the middle between the hour hand and the 11 o'clock indication to determine the south (see figure below). 

 

THIS IS THE WAY HOW TO DO IT:

On the Southern Hemisphere:

  • Point the 12 o'clock indication to the sun;

  • take the middle between the hour hand en the twelve o'clock indication;

  • that is the direction of the NORTH (see figure below)
